On Monday, September 14, 2026, the Intesa Sanpaolo Center for Transnational Litigation, Arbitration, and Commercial Law will host “Teaching International Commercial Arbitration”, a full-day conference bringing together scholars and practitioners from both sides of the Atlantic to discuss how we teach, and what we teach, in international commercial arbitration.
The conference is convened by Professor Franco Ferrari, the Center’s director, together with Professors Crina Baltag, FCIArb (Queen Mary University of London / Institute for Transnational Arbitration) and Stefan Kröll (Bucerius Law School).
The day will open with a session on methodology, featuring Professors Ronald A. Brand (University of Pittsburgh School of Law), Katie Gonzalez (Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton LLP / Cardozo School of Law), Marco Torsello (ArbLit / Università degli Studi di Verona), and Linda Silberman, before turning to substance: from the basics of arbitration as a dispute resolution mechanism (Prof. Robert H. Smit, Columbia Law School) and its regulatory framework (Prof. Andrew Larkin, University of South Carolina), through the arbitration agreement (Prof. Crina Baltag) and jurisdictional disputes (Prof. Benno Kimmelman, Brooklyn Law School), to the tribunal itself (Grant Hanessian) and procedure (Daniel Schimmel, Foley Hoag LLP). NYU Professor John Fellas will cover post-award proceedings, Prof. Zachary Calo (Touro University Jacob D. Fuchsberg Law Center) will address interim relief and state party participation, and Prof. Francesca Ragno (Alma Mater Studiorum – Università di Bologna) will close the substantive program with a look at non-US case law, before Prof. Stefan Kröll will tie it all together.
